In the ‘80’s all the old chaps in my local used to go to this every year. It used to get absolutely rammed and all the local hotels were fully booked.

He would have been a principal organiser and main speaker.
Every year after his opening ceremony speech he would say "And what is it we know, and what is it that we say?" And the dedicated almost fanatical pigeon owners would reply "NOTHING FLIES SWEETER THAN A PIGEON!".

Like Wally's bird I have no doubt Nora would have him " ringed" and would have "the clock" [similar to the racing pigeon clock] ready at the allotted time he was told to return .
