I believe it is RSPB Birdwatch 2017 this weekend , I am not participating but when I opened the blinds this morning I was stunned to see a bird of prey sitting on a tree in my neighbours garden . I rang him to see if he had spotted it and to really find out what it was .

It appears to have been a young male Sparrowhawk and I find it astonishing that it was perched there ,because where I live is urbanisation personified . I have added a very grainy [apologies ] quick photo I tried to snap you can just about make it out .

It was indeed Steve thank you for posting , never seen one before and as I say never expected to see it in such an urban area . There were very few, if any, other birds in the near vicinity which I guess is not surprising .

Registered with RSPB and added the Sparrowhawk to categories that are included in the watch plus numbers of things that I have seen from time to time during today
