At age 78, I'm probably in that category, but right now using a frame (walker) as a result of surgery in September, rather than a cane. Most people, even younger ones, who use frames bend over them, like the person in the illustration bends over the cane. I'm darned if I'll do that! For one thing, it means that you're looking more down than forward, and it just looks old, so it doesn't match the age of my attitudes. That's not for me until it's absolutely unavoidable, so I make the effort to adopt an upright posture as soon as I stand.
