The Simpsons, will it break the LOTSW record??????

I note that The Simpsons is in it's 30th year and still seems to be going strong.

I was wondering whether people think it will break the LOTSW record of 37 years. I appreciate may wouldn't class this as a comedy series but a cartoon, but I think they will claim the mantle if they get there!?

Saw a news item the other day to say it was ending according to Danny Elfmann the musical composer but that was denied by Producer Al Jean so lets see but they must be short of ideas by now .

It's hard to say but it also depends on how you define "longest running sitcom." The Simpsons already has far more episodes and although it ran over the course of 37 years, LOTSW only had 31 actual series. Al Jean, like Captain said, denies the show is ending and season 32 is already planned.
