If they had not filmed LOSW in Yorkshire,where else in the UK could you imagine it being filmed in
 
Lake District I guess would've been an oprion.

I would second that. I also did a quick think about my own town in Surrey. I am surrounded by hills, not the same sort of hills maybe, but they make me puff!
 
Maybe up in the North Yorks Dales -- very different to
West Yorks, more stark and remote than the Holme Valley.

Perhaps Askrigg? Hawes and Gayle??
