Even so seems expensive since you can buy a hardcover used version for 44p, and a used paperback for £2; and new is from £3.85 ....

How much was it originally? I only saw the 9,78.

£8.99 is recommended retail price for the paperback so usually should be available for about £7 or so: the hardback official price is £18.99 but I know I did not pay anywhere near that.
