I often wonder how many tattered and scuffed up jackets did Compo have in his props wardrobe.

Maybe he received some hand me downs from Cleggy. In the early seasons you may have noticed Cleggy had some holes in his jacket. By the later shows he never did.

I never noticed that about Cleggy's clothes. Must get some new specs.

In the 30th anniversary BBC documentary, Peter Sallis said Clegg's original jacket was his own, and the costume department had replacements made when it started to wear out!

Compo's jackets were handcrafted by the local tailors and then were given the "Compo look" by the props department which did not endear the props department to the tailors.

I noticed Clegg had a hole along the stitching on the shoulder of his jacket in one episode where they filmed over his shoulder. I think it was the left shoulder but I never made a note of which episode as that was the only time I can recall him having a hole in his clothes.

In Greenfingers, when trying to get the giant carrot down, there is a visible hole in the armpit of Clegg's jacket I believe.
