Compos First & Last Matchbox

I was surprised to see Compo showing his matchbox with it's mysterious contents in one of the latter episodes as I thought this was only used in the earlier episodes and I was wondering just how long he had used the gag. Does anyone know the first episode where this was used ? I know the last episode but I'll also leave that for someone else to guess too....

There was one episode that Compo pushed the box open then wrong way round, and you could see there was nothing in it
