At the end of 'The Reluctant Traveler' Arkwright realizes he has lost the key to his money belt (lower abdominal strangler). He suggests to the nurse Gladys Emmanuel that she operate on it to remove it and he has a new line of hacksaw blades which should work well. She hits him and angrily says she will cut it off without a shilling. I don't understand the shilling part of it. Backchannel me if necessary. Thanks.
