That would have been great, Abbot could have done that. He was offered the part of Barry's neighbour Boothroyd in 'Enter The Finger' (who could have become a recurring character) - but he declined. Basically he wasn't interested unless he got a permanent 'big' role.
The first tv set I remember at home (mid-1960s) had two big knobs at the side just above the speaker grille. You manually tuned the channel to change programmes. '4' on the dial was BBC1, '8' was ITV (Midlands). That was easy to remember, BBC1 has '4' characters, Midlands has '8' characters -...
There is a photo of Seymour on Barry and Glenda’s mantlepiece from series 19.
There was often a photo of Edie on Barry and Glenda’s mantelpiece. After Thora Hird passed away there is a new photo of Edie, taken from the series 24 episode “The Secret Birthday of Norman Clegg”.

Sadly this isn't uncommon, nor a new issue.
After 'Citizen Smith' ended in 1980 writer by John Sullivan had an idea for a football based sitcom. A pilot episode was filmed, and was commissioned for a series. But BBC1 controller Bill Cotton had not seen the pilot - when he did he cancelled the...
