Walkers are being reminded not to take stones from walls and slopes in the Dales.

I was wondering whether they got the idea for this from the 'see ya Compo' tribute. At least the latter didn't upset the fabric of the beautiful Dales

How very selfish! It will take a person skilled in wall building to replace these stones properly.

Very true, and I would think constructing a true dry-stone wall is a quickly vanishing skill. Once when I was watching Gardner's World Monty had someone demonstrating "laying a hedge" it was amazing how much skill and work was involved. So many old arts and skills are disappearing, stonework and carpentry among them, and people who took pride in a job well done, as well as beautiful.

It's more work, but volunteers in white coveralls makes a better (and legal) impression.

If C&W saw this crime they'd undoubtedly see it as Yorkshires version of The Giants Causeways natural rock formations rather than filling in the unnecessary paperwork investigating.....
