Series 13, Episode 5; Passing the Earring

I've always been bothered by the ending. So they are trying to get Smiler in and they already established that he has his own key. But then when he is unwilling to climb the ladder, Compo goes up, supposedly to let him in? Makes no sense.

True, true, no sense to it. And do ya know, for many episodes after this one Pearl has never been seen wearing those earrings. And I mean there were celebrations, funerals, the baking contest, etc. . . . . Sorry, I notice these things, lol.
