Out of Synch Question

With the demise of TheBox.bz and it's follow-on, I have not
been able to download AVI files, only MP4 files. And to play
from a USB drive to my TV, I need AVI files. So lately I have
been using Any Video Convertor to convert MP4 to AVI.

But often, on the converted video, the audio and video are
just a touch out of synch. But it changes thru out the program,
sometimes in synch, and sometimes just a bit out. Not a
major problem; just a minor irritant.

Anybody else have this problem? Have a solution or at
least a suggestion???

The MP4 file (video/audio) contains separate data streams, one for the audio the other (obviously) for the video, but they also have a "hint" track which will contain both streaming information and sync information. When you convert across to an .avi file you need to research which software is capable of maintaining the integrity of the two main data streams.
I have a little knowledge of the theory, but have absolutely no idea as to what software you could use on a windows machine (you are on a windows machine?).

FWIW -- I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 on ALL the computers, and using
different versions of Any Video Convertor on them.

I guess my question is, are there settings on the convertor that might
cause this out-of-synch condition?

For example, on one machine I am running a video bitrate of 768
and a frame rate of 25, and an audio bitrate of 128. Might this
have anything to do with the problem?

My confusion is mostly that the audio/video non-synch problem
comes and goes within the same program, and is not consistent from one
use to the next.

Yes, that would confuse me totally.
I use a video converter on my Mac called Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate which I believe also has a Windows version. I let that choose the streaming info (bitrate, framerate and framesize etc.) of the original file. It picks that info up automatically.
