So do you across the pond have a mothers and or fathers day? Personally I believe it is really a day that the card business has trumped up to make $$$$$. :16:
 
According to Wikipedia, this is the origin and history of Mother's Day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother's_Day
It didn't start out commercial, but it didn't take long for Hallmark to pick up on it's commercial potential. I hadn't realized that Mother's Day and Mothering Sunday aren't synonymous.

Note that, in spite of the change from Mothering Sunday to Mothers' Day in Europe the celebration remains on the fourth Sunday in Lent.

In answer to another query, we did eventually get Fathers' Day which I always thought a real commercial move. Seems to be celebrated on many differing dates:

You notice the price of flowers increase the week before the holiday. One year I sent them about 10 days before to save a good 50%. :17:
 
Yes, Hallmark, restaurants, and florists are all making a killing today. Whole thing is a giant crock.
