Interesting picture taken I am informed in the early 80's in the car park area near the Library location, this would of been where the market was held and the buildings in the foreground long gone and now extra parking and the Co-op supermarket, there seems to be something of a dance event going on and interestingly the is a BBC vehicle parked near the coaches

I take it that the Single storey Hall in the background is not where Cleggy and then Foggy were "courted" at the Afternoon Tea Dance by Mrs Jack Attercliffe ? If it was then perhaps the extras were getting some tuition before they filmed the dance scenes ???

No the hall was filmed in Marsden and not until the 90's

Probably some Morris men ready to whack each other with pigs bladders on the end of sticks or some locals practicing the Yorkshire martial art Ecky Thump !! ;)

Might even be filming for Getting Sam Home, I've been informed that was a massive boost to the area at the time.

This is a very interesting picture Terry, I would love to see a larger copy to explore. The white van, as you say is definitely a BBC vehicle and the building above it on the other side of the car park was used as outside shots of the library. Close to that building on the far side of the car park is what appears to be three men who, going left to right, look a bit like Compo, Truly and Cleggy. I can't enlarge that section of the picture to be sure. If that is Truly, would that mean the photo was taken later? Finally, above the BBC van, could that be Howard and Pearl? They are in the centre of the picture. These are only guesses by me. What do you think? The scenes weren't shot one at a time. The BBC would shoot any scene associated with that spot in one day.

Its all speculation, is this area perhaps where Commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks and vans are directed to park up and the fact the buses and BBC van are there simply coincidence . I guess we'll never know

Well if the picture was taken in the early 1980s, it won't be Truly. This would have been Foggy's first era.

The picture definition isn't clear so you cannot trust your vision to discern if any of the cast are there .Would you trust "Police Specialist of the Yard" Truly to be honest and say its him. You know what the old song says about vans and the boys in blue , as my Dad once said to me on the transference of our chattles: -

My old man said: "Foller the van,
And don't dilly-dally on the way".
Off went the van wiv me 'ome packed in it.
I walked be'ind wiv me old cock linnet.
But I dillied and dallied, Dallied and dillied;
Lost me way and don't know where to roam.
And you can't trust a "Special" Like the old-time copper
When you can't find your way home.

NB this is a somewhat contrived and telegraphed attempt to inject some humour into this thread for which I apologise in advance .

I remember this occasion well Captain. Marina had lost one of her contact lenses and everybody was out looking for it.

Captain, you have reminded me just what was happening when the photograph was taken. It was Foggy upfront who started it. He had carefully taken stock of the enemies position and had sent a verbal message down the line back to headquarters. You know how verbal messages can get mixed. That is what happened here. Foggy's message was "Send reinforcements, we are going to advance."
Compo was last in line and passed the message on to his Captain. "Message here from Sargent Dewhirst sir, Send three and fourpence, we are going to a dance". That is why all the people were there. They were waiting for the band. :D:D:D
