I am enjoying a new show on FX called the Americans. It's about a sleeper cell of Soviet spies circa 1980's Washington, DC area and how they took on personas of typical middle class Americans. Good acting, good writing. Great look at how the spy biz worked during the 80's. (I'm kind of a spy...
I like flat caps. Clegg wears a flat cap, as does Howard, Wesley, Smiler et al. So I chose the name flat cap. Kind of boring, but I couldn't think of anything else! :)
From what I remember concerning Compo's illness, he died in a hospital. I recall Truly and Clegg telling stories of Nora visiting him. Is that correct, or is my memory a bit foggy? :-\
All Mod Conned if my favorite so far. I have a few DVD's arriving that include Merry Christmas Father Christmas and Big Day at Dream Acres. Don't think I've seen either one yet, but am looking forward to seeing whether any can top All Mod Conned. The only other Christmas Specials I've seen are...
To posters living in the US:
A six box pack (80 tea bags per box) of Barry's Tea Gold Blend is available on Amazon.com for $40.85. If you're a member of Prime you get free two day shipping. That makes it $6.80 per box as opposed to the $8.99 or so that it goes for in grocery stores. If you're...
Wow, I lucked out based upon the new prices some places are charging. Converting dollars to pounds, I paid 14.68 pounds for the book and that includes shipping to the US. The Book Depository listed one copy for sale on Amazon.com and I snatched it up.
Just to add...my ultimate prop from any movie, TV series, etc. is the Maltese Falcon. One of the original lead birds, but one of the resin copies would be fine too. The few that have been found have sold for big bucks at auctions.
Nice little article for the resin copy that Leonardo Di Caprio...
Along those lines, I saw Cloud Atlas over the weekend and Robert Fyfe has a small role in it. I'm watching the movie and thinking, hey, that sounds just like Howard! And sure enough, it's him.
As mentioned above, one of Clegg's flat caps, Compo's green knit hat (the later sage green one), and of course Compo's matchbox so we could finally see what was inside! ;D
Best,
Flat Cap
Sounds like a good idea. I'll pass along all the good deals I find on flat caps. ;) Especially ones made in the UK and the USA. (Love it when things aren't made in China.)
Ordered mine from the Book Depository via Amazon. Cost $23.00 with shipping. Darn good price. Should get it in about two weeks. At least that has been my experience with items being shipped from the UK.
Amazon.com says that the book is out of print. ??? I'm assuming that simply means they haven't received the books yet from the publisher because it's clearly not out of print. So, I'm still waiting for Amazon.com to get it so I don't have to pay for overseas shipping. Have already paid that on a...
Living in an area where it gets very cold in the winter, I concur with the above that the best route to go is a good old fashioned ice scraper. Also, letting the interior of the car warm a bit with the heater blasting helps, too. I've also seen people put a plastic garbage bag over the window...
My grandmother, born and raised in Western PA, always made pigs in a blanket wrapped in cabbage as well. Might be a PA thing.
White Russsians, Caucasians...a great drink. It's what Jeff Bridges' character, the Dude, drank in the Big Lebowski.
