One good move by Roy Clarke was to use kids for the words on the hill. They probably had little idea as to why they were wearing white and standing in certain spots.
I would definitely continue may as well see the show through to its conclusion before it was cancelled , Russ Abbot simply plays himself from the time when he was a huge success with his TV series a bit like Smiler who was Blakey...
You made it this far Denton, might as well finish out the series :). I agree with you that Russ comes on stronger than he should have. At least you can watch it for the other characters.
You can see it especially on Peter's face how difficult it was but I think adding humor was the right thing to do, I know especially " up North " humor is a big part of funerals, it's how the grief is dealt with.
IF you search the threads , there are still members on here who cannot bring themselves to watch those episodes because they are so emotional which is testimony to the compassionate way Roy Clarke handled Bill's passing, the episodes...
Agree with you that the Compo trilogy episodes can really pull on the heart strings. Goes to show how good the other actors and writing really are to be able to handle Bill's passing as a much loved actor and character.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply, I have always looked at Summer Wine as a distraction from "edgy" comedy shows, I am not a prude, but, I enjoyed the gentle and silly humour, I realise no actor should ever be bigger than...
I am hoping some of the Die hard Summer Wine fans can assist, I am up to the stage where Hobbo has appeared, and as good as Russ Abbot is, I am finding it difficult to accept his character, it feels like an off shoot of Basildon Bond...
This seems a strange question, but, I wonder if Roy Clark was a Dick Emery fan. When Eli walks away from a scene he catches his right foot behind his left and stumbles. Recent screenings of early Dick Emery shows have Dick Emery dressed...
Hi Denton,
It did take a little time for me to warm to the new series. I think you will find mixed responses to your question. Some on here like it and others not so much. I am part of those that like it. I know it at times is not...
Can I ask what people make of "Still Open All Hours"?, I am new to the series and I can't help comparing it to its predecessor, I am not warming to it as easily, Granville seems to be turning into a clone of Arkwright, and its is not...
One gentle comedy that often gets overlooked is Roy Clarke's The Magnificent Evans, starring Ronnie Barker.
A flop at the time, now an important piece of work.
