All Mod Conned - A question.

I have just watched "All Mod Conned". If you recall, that's the episode where the trio trudge along an endless road to discover their holiday cottage is an old wrecked caravan. I'd always assumed that the location for this episode was Spurn Head on the Humber Estuary.
But interestingly, the destination board on the bus that dropped them off, read "Slapton Sands", which is in Devon, Not too far from Dartmouth. The landscape looks to me definitely like Spurn Head, but what's the story with the bus ?

It is Spurn Head, so the sign on the bus, or the bus itself, must have been a prop. I hadn't noticed details about the bus, but if I had the destination board would have been jarring. I've been to Slapton Sands and the area doesn't look anything like the location in that episode.

I'm not showing off , but wasn't Slapton Sands the area where a lot of troops were killed training for D DAY?? in 1944??

Yes, it was. An individual resident has had one of the American tanks pulled out of the sea, and has mounted it on a concrete base as a memorial. When I was there some years ago, he was at the site doing his perpetual fund-raising to maintain the memorial.

There's a slight similarity in the landscape, in that there's water on both sides of the road at Spurn Head, and Slapton Sands, But at the latter location, the road is quite short and you can see the far end of it. Spurn Head of course, stretches into the infinite distance which is what you see on the location shots. I've watched that episode a dozen times through the years, but never before noticed the bus sign. I freeze-framed it so was able to read it properly.
You are right Marianna...... The Americans were having a beach invasion exercise and a German sub came in close and opened fire on them. It was all hushed up for years....... The bodies of the victims were buried nearby in a secret mass grave, but eventually the truth emerged about the fiasco.

I agree the bus was probably a prop and we only briefly see it. bought by the prop dept. Maybe a out of service bus and forgot to take the name off

Maybe the question should be;

We know the filming location was Spurn Point, but in the story was the holiday supposed to be set at Slapton Sands?

It's hard to imagine the trio going south west to Devon though.

I don't think the destination was ever mentioned. They never usually ventured too far afield. I guess the Welsh visit was the furthest ?

Slapton Sands just over 900 young Americans lost their lives due to connection problems jn the fleet,then E Boats from Cherbourg swept in under cover of dark and sunk several LCT,s thank god it did not happen on D Day.Iliked the boys paddling the loo
